From the Artist: Urban Rhythm started as an experiment in letting go of control. I wanted to see what would happen if I stopped thinking about composition, lines, or what the finished painting was supposed to look like and simply responded to sound and movement.
I began painting blindfolded while listening to music, allowing the rhythm to dictate where the paint went rather than trying to consciously control it. Once I removed the blindfold, I started working back into what I had created. As I refined it, structure began to emerge from the chaos, almost like the movement, lights, and energy of a city coming into focus.
What I find interesting about this piece is that it became a balance between two parts of my creative process: the part of me that wants to let go and the part that instinctively wants to create order.
Urban Rhythm was an early exercise in allowing myself to do both.
