From the Artist: The Hour of Embers originally began as a sketch and has been reworked multiple times. Through every version, I wanted her to feel alive. To capture movement while showing a woman moving entirely to the beat of her own drum.
I imagine this as her big moment. She is standing on a stage in front of a crowd, completely unapologetic, as if to say, “This is me.”
The embers sweep around her as she moves, slowly fizzling out as her dance comes to an end. To me, they represent the closing of a chapter. The moment may be ending, the stage may eventually go dark, but the fire that created those embers is still very much alive within her.
It isn't the end of her fire. It's simply the end of this dance.
And scene.
