From the Artist: Surrender was created during an inspirational rut. While researching Erté and his Art Deco works, I became fascinated by how bold each piece was. The creative compositions, exaggerated lines and figures, and the ability to push beyond realism while still creating something incredibly beautiful.
The first step was getting out of my own way.
The dancer became a reflection of that idea. I wanted her to feel as though she had surrendered herself completely to the moment. Free from expectations, structure, and restraint. The surrounding dreamscape intentionally overtakes her, becoming larger than she is.
Surrender is meant to explore the idea that sometimes we feel most like our true selves in our dreams, a place where we can exist without restriction and simply let go.
